Since his childhood, Nathanael’s life has been traumatically shaped by the tale of an old fairy tale in which the Sandman pecks out the eyes of naughty human children. Due to his tendency towards the mystical, he becomes more and more alienated from the world and increasingly falls prey to a growing madness.
