Xoel, ein Landschaftsphonograph, kommt nach Serra da Estrela, um die Geräusche aufzunehmen, die von Portugals höchstem Gipfel zu verschwinden drohen. Im Laufe der Tage stellt er fest, dass der Tourismus die Zeichen der Vergangenheit zum Schweigen gebracht hat, was seine Suche ad absurdum führt. Bis ihn eine geheimnisvolle Melodie auf den Gipfel des Berges lockt und er sich verirrt. Xoels Reise wird zu einer zerbrechlichen Analogie zu der Geschichte, die der Region ihren Namen gibt: Die Legende vom Hirten und dem Stern.

Xoel, a landscape phonographer, arrives at Serra da Estrela to record the sounds which are about to disappear from Portugal’s highest peak. As the days go by he will find out that tourism has muted the signs of the past, thus making his search absurd. Until a mysterious melody lures him to the top of the mountain and gets him lost. Xoel’s journey will become a fragile analogy of the tale that gives its name to the region: The Legend of the Shepherd and the Star.
