Im rauen Atlantik gute 160 Kilometer östlich der Küste Nova Scotias liegt Sable Island. Sie hat nur einen einzigen menschlichen Bewohner: Zoe Lucas. Seit Jahrzehnten dokumentiert sie akribisch Flora und Fauna sowie menschliche Einflüsse auf ihre kleine Welt – wie zum Beispiel angeschwemmten Müll. Jacquelyn Mills begleitet Lucas auf ihren Forschungszügen mit ihrer 16mm-Kamera. Experimentelle Einsprengsel von verfremdeten Filmmaterial und Käfermusik erheben den Film über eine reine Dokumentation.

Sable Island lies in the rough Atlantic Ocean, a good 160 kilometres east of the coast of Nova Scotia. It has just one human inhabitant: Zoe Lucas. For decades, she has been meticulously documenting the flora and fauna, as well as human impacts on her small world – such as rubbish washed ashore. Jacquelyn Mills accompanies Lucas on her research expeditions with her 16mm camera. Experimental elements of altered footage and insect sounds elevate the film beyond a mere documentary.
