Auf Darwins Spuren segelt die Notärztin Rike alleine mit ihrem 12-Meter-Boot von Gibraltar nach Ascension im Südatlantik. Nach einer stürmischen Nacht entdeckt sie 300 Meilen vor der mauretanischen Küste einen Trawler, der vollkommen überladen mit Flüchtlingen in Seenot geraten ist. Der von ihr abgesetzte Notruf wird zwar quittiert, aber es kommt niemand zur Rettung. Mit ihrem kleinen Boot kann sie selbst keine Hilfe leisten, ohne sich selbst in Gefahr zu bringen.

Following in Darwin’s footsteps, emergency doctor Rike sails alone in her 12-metre boat from Gibraltar to Ascension in the South Atlantic. After a stormy night, 300 miles off the Mauritanian coast, she discovers a trawler that is completely overloaded with refugees and in distress at sea. Although her distress call is acknowledged, no one comes to their rescue. With her small boat, she cannot provide any help herself without putting herself in danger.
