Bahia (All Saints Bay), 1950. Eine Bande von Straßenkindern, die als “Captains of the Sands” bekannt ist, bringt die Gemeinde in Aufruhr. Pedro Bala, der Anführer der Gruppe, wird als Krimineller gejagt, obwohl er nur ein Teenager ist. Sie verstecken sich in einem verlassenen Lagerhaus und ziehen auf der Suche nach Nahrung und Unterhaltung über Märkte und Straßenfeste. Als die Stadt von einer Pockenepidemie heimgesucht wird, sehen sich die Kapitäne mit dem Konflikt des Todes konfrontiert. Dora, ein erst 13-jähriges Mädchen, hat ihre Eltern verloren und trifft die Gruppe in den Straßen von Salvador. Die Bande hat noch nie ein weibliches Mitglied gehabt, und Doras Ankunft verändert das Leben der Captains.

Bahia (All Saints Bay), 1950. A gang of street kids known as the “Captains of the Sands” is disturbing the community. Pedro Bala, the leader of the group, is being hunted down as a criminal, although he’s nothing more than a teenager. They shelter in an abandoned warehouse and wander through markets and street fairs in search of food and amusement. When a smallpox epidemic hits the town, the Captains are faced with the conflict of death. Dora, a girl who is just 13, has lost her parents and meets the group in the streets of Salvador. The gang has never had a female member and Dora’s arrival transforms the lives of the Captains.
