Embryo
– jazz rock, world music.
Without exaggeration, it can be said that the collective Embryo, founded in 1969, has helped shape recent German music history. Even then, the colourful troupe ignored the boundaries between genres and showed that there is more that unites than divides different sound cultures and styles. Embryo created a lively, vital something out of Krautrock elements, jazz and rhythms of the most diverse provenance. Because the Munich band invited guests like Mal Waldron, Charlie Mariano, Rabih Abou-Khalil or Okay Temiz, their music kept taking unexpected turns and constantly evolving. Marja Burchard, daughter of founder Christian Burchard, took over the band she grew up with in 2015. Since then, Embryo lives on with her, always searching for new sounds, rhythms and ideas of different thinking.
